I drafted a range of motions and memoranda for assistant district attorneys on bail, discovery requests, admission of testimony and other evidence, and sentencing recommendations. I also supported attorneys with trial preparation by transcribing child victim interviews and prison calls, reviewing discovery, and creating exhibit binders. Throughout my internship, I was able to observe numerous jury and bench trials, as well as other pretrial proceedings, gaining great insight into effective trial strategy and oral advocacy both generally and specifically in cases involving physical and sexual abuse. I also participated in a mock trial competition among the 1L interns.

I worked in The Arc's National Center on Criminal Justice & Disability, a center which serves as a bridge between criminal justice professionals and the disability community by providing training, resources, and expertise on the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the criminal justice system. I learned a tremendous amount about the intersection between disability and criminal justice and how this is manifested in disparities in the criminal justice system. Some of my tasks/professional development included:-Providing information & referral (I&R) support to family members, self-advocates, and others contacting NCCJD for assistance -Conducting legal research on ADA accommodations available in parole, diversion, and reentry services-Drafting letters to prosecutor and defense attorney associations promoting NCCJD as a resource to support attorneys when interacting with victims/witnesses/defendants with disabilities -Assisting in collecting relevant articles and statistics for NCCJD's social media platforms-Developing public speaking skills by attending workshops and giving a presentation to the office on the D.C. criminal justice system

As program assistant, I managed referee training, administering performance evaluations, and assisting the head of intramural sports.As a supervisor, I oversaw intramural sports competition by handling disciplinary or medical issues and keeping score.Finally, I officiated a variety of intramural sports such as basketball and indoor soccer throughout my three years on the job.

I conducted policy research and prepared written analyses on D.C. criminal justice reform issues such as criminal record sealing, mental health court proceedings, and barriers to reentry for returning citizens. I drafted the organization's testimony that was presented at a DC Council hearing on recommendations for proposed record sealing reform legislation. I also provided support to various project committees by attending meetings, synthesizing notes, and preparing legislative research assistance.

I worked closely with attorney Rhonda Eiger and her paralegal on matters of residential real estate and wills. Responsibilities included coordinating inspection issues, writing repair letters, ordering title work, corresponding with clients, realtors, and other attorneys; and performing any administrative tasks as needed.

I worked for the head of government and legislative affairs, and conducted research on issues relevant to the prosecutorial profession, including sentencing reform, civil asset forfeiture, and encryption. I wrote many white papers and summaries on proposed legislation, state-level reforms, and relevant judicial rulings. Other responsibilities included attending hearings and events on behalf of the organization and reporting back with notes, assisting with conference preparations, and collecting trial resources for prosecutors in Westlaw.

I worked primarily on organizing, coordinating, and preparing materials for state law enforcement training programs. For example, I prepared a presentation on the state's new body worn camera initiative that was reviewed and edited before being published on the state's website (http://www.nj.gov/oag/dcj/pdfs/Body-Worn-Cameras-2015.pdf). Additional responsibilities included reading, writing, and presenting reports on past criminal cases and investigations, and performing secretarial tasks such as data entry and file organization for the Police Training Commission.
