Under administrative direction, supervises, evaluates and participates in the work of personnel responsible for the Geographic Information System; directs, plans, organizes and supervises the activities of the City-wide program; ensures safe work practices, work quality and accuracy; maintains appropriate work records and serves as a technical resource for assigned work personnel.

Responsibilities include oversight and documentation of projects, collection of water quality samples, creating data tables and graphs using Microsoft Excel, writing reports for regulatory requirements, creating maps for presentations, GIS data collection, GIS analysis, and GIS infrastructure modeling. GIS data collection performed on over 7,000 Water District assets using a handheld GPS device. Assets include fire hydrants, meters, valves, cathodic protection stations, and wells. Collected data is used to create maps, assist in project planning, and to assist in responding to water main leaks and breaks. GIS analysis tasks include performing land use studies and determining private well water extraction.GIS infrastructure modeling tasks include digitizing construction documents to create an accurate representation of the water distribution system, updating the distribution model when repairs or projects are completed, and creating a geometric network model of the water distribution system.

Responsibilities with TRAK included Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II Subsurface Soil and Groundwater Investigations, and remedial response actions. Phase I ESA responsibilities included site inspections, creating maps, extensive document research and review, correspondence with various local agencies, and writing detailed reports. Phase II Soil Investigation responsibilities included soil sampling using hand and machine powered tools, classifying soils for soil boring logs, creating maps, analyzing laboratory data, creating data tables and graphs using Microsoft Excel, profiling soils for appropriate disposal, managing subcontractors, completing various permits, communicating with regulatory personnel, and writing reports detailing work performed and analytical results. Phase II Groundwater Investigation responsibilities included groundwater well installations, measuring depth to water, developing wells, purging wells using low flow pumps or vacuum trucks, monitoring groundwater parameters for purging completion, sampling groundwater, creating maps, analyzing laboratory data, creating tables and graphs using Microsoft Excel, profiling waste water for appropriate disposal, managing subcontractors, communicating with regulatory personnel, and writing reports detailing work performed and analytical results.Remedial response action responsibilities included installation and maintenance of soil vapor extraction systems, collecting and logging field data for reports, writing detailed operation and maintenance reports, injection of remediation compounds into subsurface soil and groundwater, and excavation of contaminated soils. Experience in operating heavy machinery including skip loaders, backhoes, and excavators. Investigations and remedial response actions required the use of analytical field equipment such as multi-parameter water quality monitors, flame ionization detectors (FID), and photoionization detectors (PID).
