Hi, I'm Mike, an Economist and Statistician with 15+ years of experience working in the capacity of team leader, project manager, and technical expert, in the areas of agricultural and rural development, and welfare, food security, and socioeconomic statistics. My primary role has been to provide technical assistance the Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) to collect and compile census and survey microdata, and to accelerate statistical capacity development and innovation in the Pacific region. I am currently employed as a Welfare Economist where I will be working with the PICTs to complete their poverty assessments. I have managed projects on poverty statistics and innovation (World Bank-IDA funded), technological advancement of national population and housing censuses (UNFPA), food systems (ACIAR), and vital statistics and population registers (Bloomberg Philanthropies), and a team of economists/statisticians/data scientists. I am PhD candidate with the University of Wollongong with research interest in statistical methods to collect consumption data to improve understanding of Pacific food system outcomes of poverty, malnutrition and food insecurity, and their coexistence and intersection.
