Principal Machine Design Engineer
Trexlertown, Pennsylvania, United States
• Principal Machine Design Engineer in CryoMachinery Department that manufactures cryogenic turbo expanders (20 - 8000 hp) for air separation, LNG, CO, and hyco process plants. • Design multiple turbine designs (compressor, blower, oil, single and multi-pinion gearbox generator loaded expander designs using fix/tilt pad oil, gas and ball bearings). • Create detailed analysis (rotor dynamic, modal, bearing loading, ASME calculations etc.), meeting foreign code/customer requirements (API, ASME, Chinese SELO, Korean KGS, Japanese High Pressure Gas Laws). • Developed several new skid/accessory system suppliers in U.S. and China. Execute onboarding projects with new suppliers. Review compliance of supplier drawings, BOM and components with APCI, customer, and international standards. Conduct source inspection/testing of skidded systems. • Interface with customers, designers, shop technicians, and vendors to successfully drive task to completion. • Support projects post-shipment with field supervision of the installation, commissioning, and startup activities of expander skids, field upgrades, machine turnarounds, and investigations of field problems in US and international plant locations (examples include Japan, China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia). • Lead engineer responsible for oil-loaded and ball bearing turbo expander models. • Mentored and trained engineers; served as the department technical expert on natural frequency testing of impellers; implemented new vibration testing hardware, testing and analysis procedures. • As test stand operator, conducted aerodynamic and performance tests of expansion turbines in closed/open loop test facility. • Repair Coordinator responsible for directing repair designers, reviewing part non-conformances, part reworks and dispositions, coordinating repair schedule with shop and customers, writing repair reports. and submitting status reports to management and customers.
