Michael is a highly qualified and experienced professional with over 30 years of experience in occupational health and hygiene assessments. He is a Chartered Chemist, Certified Occupational Hygienist and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists. Michael has a broad range of expertise in the recognition, evaluation and control of workplace hazards, with specific focus on water quality, indoor air quality, asbestos, dust, mould, and hazardous chemicals.Throughout his career, Michael has held various leadership positions within the industry, including Presidency of the Asbestos Industry Association Queensland from 1997 to 2018, and membership of the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Asbestos Safety Training Industry Reference Group. He is also a society advisor to the Asbestos Related Disease Support Society QLD (ARDSSQ) and a NATA technical assessor for asbestos identification and counting.In addition to his leadership roles, Michael has contributed extensively to the development of industry standards and regulations. He sat on the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Asbestos Working Party for the development of Asbestos Removal Work Compliance and Advisory Standard in 1996. He also served on both the Safework Australia Asbestos Model Regulations Temporary Advisory Group and its Assessor Steering Committee Group in 2010. More recently Michael was a member of the Standards Australia Technical Committee CH-031 "Methods for Examination of Workplace Atmosphere", specifically Working Group 1, responsible for the revision of AS 4964 Method for the qualitative identification of asbestos in bulk samples.Michael is an author and co-author of numerous publications in his field, including the 3rd edition of "Principles of Occupational Health & Hygiene, An Introduction," where he co-authored Chapter 11 on Indoor Air Quality with Dr Sue Reed. Furthermore, he has served as a Council member of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists from 2010-2012 and 2015 and as Chair of the Membership and Qualifications Committee from 2010 to 2023. Currently, Michael is one of the Institute's COH examiners.With his extensive knowledge and experience, Michael is a valuable asset to any organization in need of occupational health and hygiene expertise.
