A 1978 West Point graduate who served in several military leadership positions until 1984, Michael left active duty but remained in the Reserves. From 1984 until 1996, he held key positions at Michelin Tire, WR Grace, and Viskase Corporation. In 1996, he launched Asset Protection Company, an investment company. The Army ‘called him up’ to go to Central Command for Afghanistan and he sold the investment company in 2004. When he returned, he took on a civilian contract for the Department of Defense, completed it, and then became a corporate executive in a consulting company that had several significant contracts inside Iraq.At this point in time, Michael had earned a reputation within the Army for making average units into very effective units. He was promoted to Brigadier General in the Reserves and activated for duty as the Commander of Engineers in Iraq. Initial duties included keeping the major roads clear of IED’s, all construction contracts country-wide, and fortifying all bases and outposts from attack. When the “Surge” was announced, Michael’s duties were expanded to include building new hardened facilities and housing for 30,000 additional troop units that were flooding into Iraq. Upon returning from Iraq, Michael went back to his position as Vice President of Finance for the consulting company. He was recruited by Booz Allen in 2008 and was placed on several projects, most notably the project to plan, organize, and execute the relocation of the much-maligned Walter Reed Hospital. When Booz Allen got to their third round of repositioning in 2012, Michael returned to his home state in Kansas to start-up another business. Today he consults on the roll-up of franchised businesses.Michael literally “gravitates to challenges” and seeks to join a company that has high goals for success in its markets.
