About Michael Steiper, Phd 🎓
I am the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the College of Staten Island, CUNY. As the Chief Academic Officer, I lead the Office of Academic Affairs including the academic programs, faculty affairs, student success, and institutional research and assessment. I collaborate with the President, the Deans, and other senior administrators to advance the strategic vision, mission, and goals of the college, which offers over 80 degree programs across five academic units and serves a diverse student population of 10,600.I have over 20 years of experience in higher education, both as an administrator and a faculty member. I am a Professor of Anthropology at CSI and the Graduate Center of CUNY, where I have conducted research on primate genomics and other topics. I was the founding Director of the Human Biology Program at Hunter College and a recipient of the Hunter College Presidential Award for Excellence in Service. I have also completed multiple certifications in higher education leadership from Harvard University, Penn State University, and CUNY. As a first generation college student, I am passionate about ensuring the promise of higher education is kept for all students today.

CurrentThe provost is responsible for all activities and personnel within the Office of Academic Affairs, reports to the president, and serves as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO). CSI offers over 80 associate's, bachelor's, master’s, and professional doctoral programs across five academic units: Chazanoff School of Business; School of Education; School of Health Sciences; Division of Humanities & Social Sciences; and Division Science & Technology.
