Michael Stepanovic, Pharm.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education. Dr. Stepanovic completed his Doctor of Pharmacy training at Purdue University. During his time there he was a researcher in the lab of Dr. Stephen Byrn focused on Sustainable Medicines in Africa and detection of counterfeit medications. He also served on the Counterfeit Drug Analysis Global Design Team. Dr. Stepanovic gained invaluable teaching experience teaching in numerous courses. Additionally, he completed internships at AstraZeneca in Pharmaceutical Engineering and at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Critical Care and Surgery.Adding to his significant research experience, Dr. Stepanovic has spent time at Rush University Medical Center and University of Chicago Medical Center as an Assistant Research Coordinator. He has also conducted research at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi, Tanzania, Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, Providence Health in Anchorage Alaska, and the University of Pennsylvania.Dr. Stepanovic completed additional clinical training via a PGY1 Acute Care Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania followed by administrative and leadership training via a PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership Residency at the same institution. During that time, he received his Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, served as Chief Resident, Interim Manager of Emergency Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy Lead of the Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT), and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.As an innovator and entrepreneur, Dr. Stepanovic has spearheaded multiple innovative programs and solutions during his time at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he helped launched MedTrak, LLC focused on tracking medications throughout the medication use process to promote patient safety. He is a passionate supporter of the role of the pharmacist and technology in the delivery of patient care and optimization of patient safety.Dr. Stepanovic has been active in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American College of Healthcare Executives, and numerous other state, national, and international pharmacy organizations. He is an active member of the THRIV coalition for IV accuracy and an avid volunteer in the community at local free clinics and coaching in underserved areas.
