Dr Michael Stewart is a hydrologist and hydraulic modeller with 25 years of consulting experience. After graduating with a PhD from the University of Leeds in 1995, Michael spent three years at the University of Bristol before joining Babtie Group in 1998, where he worked for five years within their rivers and coastal group. During this time Michael spent two years in Hyderabad, India, developing a flood forecasting system. In 2003 Michael joined Rescan Environmental Services Limited in Vancouver, Canada, where he led their hydrological services team until late 2007. He then returned to the UK to become a Director of Kaya Consulting Limited. In the last 15 years Michael has grown Kaya's Environmental Impact Assessment and mine water management business streams, as well as developing UK-based hydrology and flood risk management work.Michael has been involved in numerous hydrological and modelling assessments for mining and other infrastructure projects and has contributed to EIAs and water management plans for >30 mining projects worldwide. This work has included planning and setting up hydrological monitoring networks, developing hydrological parameters for use in mine site design, assessment of impact of development on surface flows and water quality, tailings pond water balance and water quality modelling and development of site water management plans. Michael has undertaken numerous 1D, 2D and 3D hydraulic, water quality, sediment transport and wave modelling studies.
