Despite the simplicity of the title, this position was much broader in scope than Procurement. Managed all aspects of setting up an overseas supply chain for a company that had done all of its manufacturing domestically prior to my arrival. Scope covered three completely independent divisions and product lines under one corporate umbrella: Metcal (Top-of-the-line soldering/soldering fixtures, Advanced Chip Package Rework Systems, Fume Extraction); Techcon Systems (Fluid Dispensing); and OK Industries (Telecommunications).• Led the effort to transfer Metcal production to southern China (Dongguan). Worked entirely in Mandarin with top management there due to limited English capability. Reduced manufacturing costs by more than 50%.• Sourced Fluid Dispensing capability in Shanghai with supply chain extending to Wenzhou. Found a key manufacturing partner who is the primary source to this day.• Worked closely with local Engineering and Manufacturing to redefine and enhance production steps for a product with over 1,500 assembly steps (Advanced Package Rework System)• Redefined the interaction between Engineering, Purchasing and Quality Assurance during the product development cycle to eliminate silos and take advantage of the strengths of each at the earliest possible point.• Worked closely with the Operations/Procurement Department to enable overseas price negotiation, purchasing and logistics management. Prior to my involvement, overseas purchasing was almost nonexistent.

Hired directly from Universal Electronics to completely overhaul the systems and recapture business in addition to expanding the product scope and customer base. • Completely overhauled engineering and production departments with TQM methodologies as the core• Led the effort to upgrade staff to include members with extensive experience with large corporations like Samsung and LG• Successfully recaptured Universal Electronics as a customer and quadrupled the business between the two companies• Engaged legal representation to win settlement against a delinquent Arizona-based customer that attempted to swindle the company out of $750,000 in owed payment for product delivered per their requirements• Expanded product line to add audio line including microphone and speaker assemblies• Added at least two new customers who contributed significantly to Total Sales (approximately 40%)** Developed a working knowledge of Korean spoken and written language during prior 2-year stint and this assignment.
