Led the backend team in the design and implementation of a cloud-based mobile/web backend for in-home alarm monitoring devices and apps.Internally:* Developed a scalable, reliable backend on a Ruby/Python/Postgres/Docker/PubNub/AWS stack that handled thousands of mobile and embedded device HTTP clients; integrated with Twilio, emergency calling databases, and a half-dozen other external services; and analyzed and modified audio recordings for human intelligibility.* Created tooling used company-wide for testing, debugging, user support, and business intelligence.* Defined Agile-ish software development practices from the ground up - code review, merge process, ticket management, testing standards, security reviews, etc.* Apportioned work between team members, set internal and external timelines, and worked directly with the product team on transforming user stories to engineering tasks.Externally:* Initiated and helped lead the development of a revamped project management process.* Evaluated prospective products and features for feasibility with respect to technical and international regulatory requirements.* Worked with marketing and community teams to launch and manage Wordpress, shopping, and community sites.* Worked with product team on feature roadmaps and UX challenges.

Rebuilt client-side stack of a petabyte-sized distributed storage system in Python – including a multiplexing network protocol, bespoke authentication layer, and “CP” distributed consensus protocol.Created scalable Bittorrent interface for same involving predictive caching – talk on implementation submitted to SNIA conference.Instrumented major improvements to large-scale automated testing framework, including creating several internal Django and Sinatra apps.

Implemented microsecond-latency market data dissemination over high-speed network links.Identified automated testing, deployments and monitoring as major organizational challenges, and was quickly given free reign to solve these issues. Wrote more than a half-dozen mostly-Java tools to address architectural challenges at CME, many of which were soon requested by outside teams and individual developers.
