Member of the TfL Rail and Underground Strategy leadership team, working to define and obtain TfL Board approval for London Underground and Rail major capital projects. Key accountabilities included:- Leading production of high value funding submissions, including £5bn Four Line Modernisation programme- Defining and assessing options for London Underground upgrades strategy- Securing budget and authorities within the TfL business plan and prioritising spend across the London Underground and Rail major project portfolio- Major programme interface coordination- Planning and establishing a new Major Projects Delivery Business from a blank sheet of paper through to operation to provide assured delivery of TfL's 12 largest and most complex projects- Design of London Underground Renewals and Enhancements Directorate management structure- Capability lead for TfL sponsor community

Responsible for the business cases for TfL's £16bn Deep Tube Upgrade Programme and £5bn Four Lines Modernisation Programme.I often think back to this role when riding on one of TfL’s brilliant S Stock trains and hope I’ll do the same with the new tube trains on the Piccadilly line in a few years. Generating business cases for these projects meant bringing together virtual teams to produce succinct analysis and reports to underpin successful funding applications for both programmes. Learnt an awful lot about energy consumption, cost estimating and rolling stock design; not to mention depots and the many challenges of introducing new signalling onto LU’s ageing infrastructure. All of the above, and more, went into developing, building and testing a whole life cost benefit model which was a integral part of the procurement strategy and process for selecting the best value new trains for the Piccadilly line. Great to see the order placed and detailed train design being progressed recently!I’m really proud of a particularly challenging piece of work I led to balance TfL’s automation aspirations with the real life complications of running a mixture of lines and train stocks to London’s western suburbs. Had to work hard to ensure we got the right balance of costs and benefits for customers but managed to bring together structured evidence and made the case. Also spent an interesting period working up various sets of both strategic and detailed programme requirement specs; pays to get the details right.

Piccadilly and Sub-Surface Railway Service PlannerVery fond memories of digging through mounds of data to find that little bit of extra time saving or capacity enhancement on the tube. Led implementation of timetable to commence Piccadilly line services to Heathrow T5 and delivered an analysis programme for a pioneering new approach to timetable specification that built in allowances for realistic time variation to improve service reliability. Also got involved in analysis for the extension of Circle line services to Hammersmith - a once in a career service change. This role opened my eyes to the complexity of managing and delivering change in a large operational organisation like TfL.

Bus Network Planner for South East LondonThis role gave me a great grounding in transport planning approaches to optimise London’s bus network, producing business cases, and writing and presenting board papersIt was very rewarding seeing changes I designed being implemented including new routes and extensions providing active transport options to previously remote / car dependent residential areas.
