I was born in Toronto, Canada but grew up just south of the Arctic Circle in Iqaluit on Baffin Island. I went to St. Andrew's College in Aurora, Ontario for high school and received my undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Psychology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.During University I became interested in Yoshinkan Aikido and in 1993 I moved to Japan to study and train as part of an intense International Instructor's Course taught in conjunction with the Tokyo Riot Police. This course, known as the Senshusei Course, is portrayed by Robert Twigger in his book, "Angry White Pyjamas".I am the CEO and a founder of Emissary Computer Solutions in Tokyo. One of my fellow senshusei and I formed this company as a way to work while continuing to train and teach at the Yoshinkan hombu dojo. Emissary was formed in 1997 with the goal of providing professional and quality IT solutions to offices in Japan.Since then, Emissary has expanded to include remote support, VoIP phone system support, database development and multi-vendor, third party maintenance and hardware break/fix support thoughout Japan.I have learned a lot about supporting non-Japanese companies in Japan and how to find that elusive middle ground between what corporate IT wants and how to get the Japan offices to implement those corporate solutions. I know that Japan can be a very daunting market.
