Then, when Bates bought McCaffrey and McCall Partners, we moved the business together over to Bates. It was a huge and successful effort as we did not lose one client or drop one assignment, including countless national media insertions. We seamlessly operationalized all of our existing business within a new system and then set about winning more business (Cunard, Warner Lambert and the launch of Lipitor) while building a very profitable division for Bates. In our time together, I saw first-hand, and, on numerous occasions, the extraordinary grasp of advertising and marketing strategy that Mike displayed at the highest levels of a wide variety of client organizations. I attribute this not only to his intelligence but to the scope of his experience. Whether it was clients like T. Rowe Price that have business models that are entirely structured on CRM or GE where CRM was a new and novel concept, Mike was able to connect and demonstrate to clients that, more than just a mere strategy, businesses like these needed the CRM expertise and understanding of how direct interaction with customers could help them build their business. And, this same way of thinking was applied to the digital work we did together when “interactive” started and before it became fundamental to everything digital. Mike understands this at an almost quantum level and nothing is more relevant today than understanding how to connect the right brand idea (or experience) to the right customers in the right context and at the right time. Mike is also a huge supporter of the agency creative product, encouraging and inspiring the creative group to deliver the right idea – the big idea -- to meet the objective." and "I’ve learned a lot from Michael Sugzda.
