English Second Language Teacher
Dunkirk, New York, United States
Began teaching three students at night, which slowly grew to 38 at its highest point, with many of them attending regularly. I used the Best Plus at a metric for language proficiency and really poured myself into curriculum design. Aside from the attendance hours being a positive, the efficacy of my curriculum design eventually began moving regular attending students who were not speaking English very much (if at all) in the beginning, and helped guide them into employable and conversational English proficiency after just 40 dedicated attendance hours in my class. This usually took about 3 months for someone attending 3 days each week for a couple of hours. Students who put in the time and effort will see it pay off, I just helped them navigate their path of success. Several students ended up getting jobs they thought would be a stretch for them, which was rewarding. One of them even became teacher's aid for E2CCB shortly after she tested out of the program!
