Daventry

I run the daily operations at Daventry International Rail port. I organise up to 9 members of staff split into 4 teams. This includes a traffic clerk, Kalmar drivers (reach stacker vehicles) and two shunt teams. Over a 24 hour period we have up to 24 arrival and departures to process. My role is to organise the staff keeping in constant radio communication. I also speak to customers on the phone dealing with any issues they may have or amendments to future/current services. It is my responsibility to manually input the train wagons and containers on to our system for billing and stock report measures. If any incident should occur it is my job to take control on the site stopping all works and to do the initial investigation. I am involved in monthly meetings where we discuss any issues raised by staff and any future health and safety proposals. As a shift manager I am also competent in all of our staff's skills and if they have any issues I am the first person they report to.

Banbury

I was part of a two man team that had to respond to any incident on the M40 within 20 min. I was a driver and operative. Our role was to either support the emergency services already on site or make the area safe for their arrival. Often as the first personnel on site I would have to decide on what level of support was needed. I would have to make the decision on how many lanes needed closing and to make sure the area is clear for any emergency services to arrive, Often dealing with angry and upset commuters. We also had to carry out any repairs and complete general maintenance on the motorway.

Varied

I was a Fusilier in the second battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. I have many roles including 3 time team medic during operations. I was trained as a platoon signaller. As a signaller it was my job to tune in the daily frequencies used on all commanders radios whilst aiding with any problems they had with them. I also had to relay messages from headquarters to the commanders of my platoon and pass on vital information of the battalions operations. I was a trusted driver and I had responsibility of driving our ambulance's as well as a Mastiff. This vehicle was 8 meters long and heavily armoured, It has the capability of being driven with its lights off and using a screen and infrared lights. Driving in complete darkness requires extreme calmness and focus Whilst serving I completed 1 tour of Iraq and 2 tours of Afghanistan. I also completed many big exercises including a 6 week exercise in Jordan. I was based in Cyprus and London. Whilst in London we had to complete ceremonial duties which involved me being in the changing of the guard and protecting Buckingham Palace.
