Michael is the pioneer in setting up the Software Asset Management (SAM) capability for Shell. His key responsibilities include ensuring software license compliance and cost optimisation. He contributed significantly to the establishment of the software license management framework and fundamental for Shell, especially in the area of Oracle and SAP license management. He played a key role in the implementation and operationalization of Shell’s SAM Programme through the setup of SAM processes, SAM tools, contracts and license entitlement baseline, software deployment and cost recovery strategies. He setup and lead the Oracle and SAP SAM teams with an additional responsibility over the SAM data and tooling solutions.Michael has in-depth knowledge and experience in managing complex Oracle software licenses. He understands the Oracle LMS audit process well and have experience liaising with Oracle LMS organisation. He played a key role in strategizing and steering Shell in a number of significant Oracle contract negotiations with favourable outcome. Apart from Oracle, he has experience in managing software such as SAP and Adobe. Michael has led many Shell internal audits and remediation activities to deliver significant financial cost savings and cost avoidance. He understands the complex business and operations challenges well and is able to deliver pragmatic yet effective solutions. This includes supporting locally and supplier managed IT environment, complex joint ventures, merger acquisition and divestment. He also leads tactical and strategic discussions on deployment to various cloud platforms.Michael has excellent stakeholder management skills that allow him to deal with and influence a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders. This includes IT architects, Finance, Contract & Procurement, Legal, senior management, Joint Ventures, suppliers and software publishers. Michael has successfully raised the visibility of the importance of SAM in Shell.

Michael took a break from the IT world and ventured into global trade compliance. Amidst unfamiliar territory, Michael demonstrated once again his ability to learn fast and deliver to commitment. He established an end-to-end process to secure preferential import duty rates for the trades of lubricant products within the Asia region and between Asia region and other regions, while ensuring trade compliance amidst a versatile and complex business environment. Michael has garnered valuable hands-on experience and sound knowledge in the area of Trade Compliance, Logistics and lubricant supply chain business. This included detailed formulation and cost analysis for lubricant products, export import documentation preparation and submissions to government authorities of various countries, managing freight forwarders and logistics suppliers, and trade controls tracking.In his capacity, Michael successfully helped the organization realized significant savings in import duties.

In his capacity as the test process owner, Michael successfully enforced test controls compliance within the global Upstream business. He streamlined and implemented effective test strategy, standards and controls to deliver successful cutovers of SAP solutions to production. He played a key role in the setting up and operationalising of a dedicated testing team. The team went on to form an important part of the Upstream global delivery organisation and provided testing capabilities for complex SAP software releases and system upgrades globally.

Michael was the SAP BW Cutover lead for Shell’s global Upstream business. He was responsible to ensure a smooth running of all BW cutover activities to production which included establishing cutover strategy and plans, cutover rehearsals and actual cutover coordination. In this capacity, Michael demonstrated his ability to learn fast and lead cross functional teams in unfamiliar areas. He successfully improved the overall cutover process with measurable results.

Michael successfully transitioned a new key global application from project mode into support mode. Amidst a tight timeline, he successfully established an end-to-end service management for the application and thereafter assumed the role of the service manager. His experience included the setup of vendor contracts, support models, ITIL processes and an offshore support team.

Michael’s main responsibilities involved managing and coordinating the swift resolution of high severity global IT incidents in Shell in accordance to predefined service levels. He has successfully demonstrated his abilities to lead various global technical teams to deliver under extreme pressure amidst unfamiliar technical challenges. He was able to effectively manage his stakeholders and customers. Michael also leads the root cause analysis review. In addition, Michael championed the Configuration Management process and data quality improvement and was involved in the roll out of Configuration Management tool. He successfully elevated the importance of Configuration Management within his organisation and was instrumental in the setup of a dedicated Configuration Management team.

Michael’s main responsibility was to manage Shell’s global server migration activities to ensure servers are built and patched according to predefined requirements and standards. He was also the Configuration Management champion and had successfully improved the configuration data quality of Shell’s server assets.

Michael was part of a project team to implement a manufacturing process control system in the plant. His roles included business analysis, software development and systems support. He had personally rolled out 2 major phases of the project successfully. He also developed several software solutions to continuously improve the company's manufacturing process and product quality.
