At Asheville High School, I completed a two-semester internship with the Music/Band Department. Along with my mentor teacher William Talley, III, I gained valuable insight on how a successful band program was run. The level of proficiency that Mr. Talley had these students perform at was extremely high, including the repertoire performed which was at a collegiate level. I was involved in any way that I could, and was given the opportunity to conduct multiple performances and songs each semester. Working as a summer camp counselor at Camp Wright solidified my love for teaching children the joy of music, along with valuable experience in teamwork, communication, leadership, facilitation, and curriculum management. This camp was designed so that every week brought a new set of campers, who chose activities that they would participate in during the week.I created and developed Camp Wright's first music class. The age of campers ranged from 7-15, and there would be at least three classes daily. During my second year, I was asked to join the leadership team, a select group of counselors who's purpose was to help bridge the gap from general counselors to administrators. Here I learned valuable problem-solving techniques, employee training motives, and behavior management for employees working in a medium-size group. Show less
