Interfacial Chemist And Process Engineer For Nfr At Meta Reality Labs
Noisefigure Research Sep 2023 - Present
    Lubbock , Tx, Us
Materials Chemist within the Materials and Additives group. I serve as surface scientist and polymer materials expert within the group. My team designs and fabricates elastomer/silicone based wearable devices (glove/wristband) within Meta Reality Labs. This involves design of new polymer formulations with required properties (flexibility/storage/loss modulus), and chemical modification of surfaces (plasma modification, silanization, partial inhibition) to improve adhesion. Hands on experience in injection molding/compounding/casting, material property testing, and characterization. My main areas of interest at Meta have been developing self-assembled monolayer (SAM) chemical modification methods to improve adhesion between flexible materials (silicones, polyimide) or resist silicone adhesion, including optimizing surface stability, and tracking material contamination with RL products. Notable deliverables• Developed self-assembled monolayer direct grafting chemical method for long term silicone release coatings. • Optimized SAMRelease for CVD (patent pending)• SAMRelease method integrated into glove and band builds, savings of around $1M• Pressure-sensitive adhesive screening, and surface modification of textiles for improved adhesion in glove builds• Surface modification of PET/Nylon fibers for improved adhesion to epoxies, silicone resins, acrylics• Led partnership with the University of Washington to advance materials characterization capabilities for Meta• Leading reliability and compatibility (surface analysis – XPS, TOF-SIMS, SEM-EDS, LCMS/MS. GCMS/MS)• Promotion to lab leadership position, managing operation of metrology suite and wet lab.• Mentoring students/interns on metrology and surface science projects

Taproot Medical Technologies Oct 2022 - Sep 2023
Senior Chemist and Material Scientist at a startup working on development of biofouling resistant coatings for silicone based ventricularperitoneal shunts. My main role was tailoring silicone surface chemistry to prevent protein adsorption to produce a stable medical device for commercialization. Optimizing surface chemistry and stability enabled ISO 10993-1 compliance and FDA 510K filing.Notable deliverables: • Design of new polymer resistant to loss of protein resistant functionality when sterilized (EO/gamma)• Developed plasma-based method for conformal coating of device• Chemically labelling copolymer with fluorescent reporter to allow for coating distribution analysis• Wrote 3 independent grant proposals (DARPA, NIH, DOD)• Co-write quality management system manual for 510K compliance
  • Pacific Northwest National Laboratory - Pnnl
    Chemist (Ii)
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory - Pnnl Oct 2019 - Oct 2022
    Richland, Wa, Us
Chemist at PNNL, a Department of Energy National Laboratory. I spent 3 years at PNNL working on expansion of mass spectrometry and surface science capabilities targeted towards biopolymers, single cells, and biomarker detection. I led a DOE funded LDRD project on development of a laser-based instrument and serviced as a SME for mass spectrometry imaging techniques (TOF-SIMS, MALDI, LAESI). Notable deliverables:• Development of lab-on-chip microfluidic device to simulate soil microenvironment• Development of a novel near-IR laser-ablation electrospray molecular microscope for single cell phenotyping. This instrument was the first in its kind, and a significantly expanded the capabilities of PNNL.• Successfully employed MALDI – LC-MS/MS for epithelial ovarian cancer to identify oxidized lipid biomarkers as early warning systems for ferroptosis• 1st example of modeling lipid ordering at inorganic interfaces• Handling user projects and outside customers utilizing the Environmental and Molecular Sciences Laboratory
  • University Of Washington
    Visiting Scientist
University Of Washington Oct 2016 - Oct 2019
    Seattle, Wa, Us
UW visiting researcher working at the National Institute for Biomedical Problems. The center specializes in biomaterial development and chemical characterization of surface modified materials for tissue engineering and biomedical applications. My role as a biomaterial specialist involved physicochemical characterization of surface modified (plasma, heparin binding modified PCL bioabsorbable scaffolds).Notable deliverables:• Developed surface modification approach to bioresorbable poly-caprolactone scaffolds based on plasma initiated click chemistry• Functionalized scaffold with fluorocarbons (corrosion resistant), and peptides (RGD), and quantitative 3D imaging of their distributions using TOF-SIMS 3D depth profiling• Generated reference libraries for SIMS analysis to enable identification of organic acids in biological tissues• Developed novel sample preparation methodology for transverse imaging of xenobiotic tissues.
