Lead and managed a professional team that provided recovery-focused psychosocial support to people experiencing severe mental illness and other life challenges. Key areas of intervention included mental health issues, homelessness, alcohol and substance abuse, family and domestic violence. My role as the Coordinator was to provide leadership to the team in terms of setting short and long-term direction, training and mentoring, assisting staff in managing critical incidents and facilitating relationship management between our team and external stakeholder and service providers. A strong focus was on actively developing and maintaining strategic relationships with public mental health services, along with focusing on fulfilling contract management for our services.

Responsible for overseeing daily operations of teams under the Ruah Mental Health and Wellness Programs comprising of 40+ staff and 5 coordinators, including the Individualised Community Living Strategy Program (ICLS), Mental Health and Wellness teams, as well as the Engagement and Assessment Team. This included supervision of staff as well as representing Ruah at community events with key stakeholders.

Worked closely with a diverse range of clients experiencing mental health issues. This involved conducting detailed assessments, determining the services required to improve each client’s outcome and liaising with service providers to ensure the required services were accessible. This role has provided me with an innate ability to carry out detailed assessment and crisis intervention, using a range of techniques to assist the client before they engage in other services. – techniques include brief solution-focused therapy, de-escalation of distress, brief CBT and DBT skills intervention and delivery of psycho education.

Similar to the above role, this position was focused on providing support and assistance to members of the community experiencing mental health issues. The role entailed assertive outreach along with community-based case management. The role focused on conducting detailed client assessment, identifying the services required to assist each client, devising treatment and action plan, as well as liaising and maintaining relationships with service providers within the community. Common interlined areas of support were around homelessness, AOD, child protection, crisis intervention and family/domestic violence.
