My team partnered with Sonoco Packaging Company based in Hartsville, SC. Sonoco enlisted our team to help them solve a warehouse optimization project. Because they grew on an acquisition basis, their supply chain is divided into a plant or business unit level giving rise to a myriad of inefficiencies, almost no leverage with 3PL’s, and a decentralized approach with limited visibility. Throughout the project, I was responsible for acting as the liaison between the USC team and the Sonoco team, creating complex linear programming and center of gravity models, and advanced data cleaning.
Production Strategy Intern
My first internship was nothing short of amazing. I was able to learn more in three months than I ever thought possible. Being able to relocate in the summer expanded my confidence, independence, and love for Texas. I was so humbled to be working for the very company that pioneered so many groundbreaking advances in supply chain methodology. The workplace culture is embedded with Kaizen, Nemawashi, and other innovative principles which continues to give rise to its incredible success.In my group, Production Strategy, I was tasked with a daily administrative release of the group's main responsibility, in-house vs. out-house production of a part. My responsibilities started to shift towards more of a strategic research role when I was asked to compile data from the short term sales and the long term sales forecasts to create a seamless and interactive report showing demand over the next few years. This report was used in executive review.The bulk of my summer surrounded the impending renegotiation of NAFTA (now USMCA). I joined meetings of several subject matter experts to best tackle the upcoming change that reported directly to executive management. We spent a lot of manpower crunching numbers and dedicated ourselves to constantly changing assumptions to arrive at a snapshot of the current company position.Through lots of hard work and the gracious support from an innumerable amount of mentors, I took a few key lessons away from my summer including the necessary ability to communicate and establish assumptions between all stakeholders and the importance of a presentation to be formatted in a way where key takeaways are easily understood by the audience.

I spent two summers as a member of the player assistant staff and decided to try something new at the club. The Camargo Club has been ranked inside of the national top 30 courses a number of times and a lot of that has to do with the layout and pristine condition of the course. Little did I know this would be one of the most demanding jobs I've ever had! I learned so much about the value of hard work and my first look at the practical application of process monitoring metrics.I started out as a measly green mower and worked hard with enough attention to detail to establish my ability to learn quickly. Managers acknowledged and appreciated my work ethic and I was able to perform a number of skilled jobs someone in my position would never have the opportunity of performing. I rolled greens, mowed fairways, and even operated the bush hog in my summer at the club.

My first job after just graduating high school. I played on my high school golf team and my life seemed to revolve around golf up to this point, so it was a logical to continue that trend. My team was responsible for being the first point of contact with members ensuring a positive experience.
