Currently, I am an 8th grade middle school science teacher at Garnet Valley MS. In the more than nine years as an educator, I have developed strengths that would be valuable to any School District including: classroom management, building of student-report through a student centered classroom, and implementing relevant activities using project based learning in the classroom. During my time at Wicomico HS, I implemented a flipped classroom. Using this approach and applying my strengths have resulted in success. As an urban/high-needs school, homework completion and test scores are typically low. My classes started out with poor homework completion. However, after I implemented a flip classroom, my student’s homework completion grew to well over 90% and has led me to be nominated for Wicomico HS Teacher of the Year in 2019-2020. While at Cato-Meridian HS, I was given the task to raise their NYS Regents scores in both Chemistry and Physics. After my first year there, I had raised the NYS Regents scores to the best they have had been in more than five years. Note: I had never taught physics before. While at MacArthur HS, the administration felt so highly of my efforts that half-way through the 2014-2015 school year, I was given the task of preparing three sections of classes in biology to help students who had previously been unsuccessful in passing the STAAR Biology exam. The results surprised my administration. I raised my school’s re-testers percent passing on the Biology STAAR (Texas State Test) by 31 percentage points.
