I also collaborated with researchers at the University of Washington’s Department of Medicine, applying my flow cytometry and immunology expertise to explore the contribution of various lymphocyte populations to diet-induced obesity and obesity-associated morbidities.Responsibilities: • Experimental design & execution, data analysis & interpretation• Optimized and implemented new SOP, increasing the specificity and sensitivity of common lab assays.• Preparation and public presentation of scientific findings.• Facilitation of on-site and off-site research collaborations.
Postdoctoral Scholar
Supported by a T32 training grant from the NIH, I continued my post-doctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Penelope Morel to study how dendritic cells control the induction & expansion of Treg and how DC could be used to delay/prevent autoimmune diabetes. I also collaborated with Dr Robert O'Doherty to investigate the contribution of dendritic cells to the inflammation of obesity and type 2 diabetes. In addition, I undertook a collaboration with Dr James Faeder and Natasa Miskov to use computational modelling to explore how T cell receptor signal strength and duration can determine cell fate and differentiation.During this time, I also earned a certification in scientific innovation & commercialization.
Postdoctoral Associate
I joined the laboratory of Dr. Penelope Morel to conduct research on Type 1 Diabetes. I applied my training in dendritic cell and T cell biology to investigate how the quality of DC/T cell interactions can be modulated to delay/prevent diabetes. Also, I collaborated with Dr Eric Ahrens (CMU) to develop MRI & NMR methods of tracking immune cells in vivo.
Graduate Student Researcher
My PhD training & research was undertaken in the cancer vaccine laboratory of Dr. Olivera "Olja" Finn.There, I generated new TCR-Tg mice, which I used to investigate antigen-specific T cell responses to the shared tumor antigen, MUC1. This resulted in one of the first studies to report the role of regulatory T cells (Treg) in the tolerance to self/tumor antigens.
