About Michael Vallee
I am a grammar aficionado, crossword puzzle devotee, and self-confessed word nerd. I am bilingual and a passionate admirer of Latin American cultures. I value critical thinking, analytical skills, and academic argument. I get excited when I hear the word “rhetoric.”These characteristics have shaped who I am and led me to a career as an English language and writing instructor. While a lecturer at the University of Colorado Boulder, I taught freshman composition as well as all skills and all levels of academic ESL. Throughout my 7+ years at CU, I refined not only my teaching skills but also my abilities to operate an LMS, design courses/curriculum, and teach with technology. A pivotal moment occurred in my career in 2015 when I added the role of academic advisor to my duties at CU's International English Center. During this time, I learned more about the challenges international students face, and I discovered new ways that I could support them both academically and in their personal lives. As an academic advisor, I find out my advisees’ interests and strengths, help them establish academic and career goals, and guide them through their navigation of the university system. I try to put them in the driver’s seat, but they know I’m riding shotgun and can offer support and knowledge when needed. An ideal position would allow me to combine my experience as an educator, advisor, and course designer while offering opportunities for growth and leadership. I’m excited for a new challenge in education or the corporate world where I can best leverage my skills!
