The Tax Reform Act of 1986 really changed banking. Capital Bank was in receivorship and I had an opportunity to work for a bank on an IBM 3081 mainframe system. I still got to write some code but I was primarily responsible for supporting applications (G/L, Installment Loans, in-house Time and Attendance system, etc. I also did a few small Assembler programs, most FCBs to support special printing needs. It was my first experience with MVS and their utilities including CICS and Syncsort. I really liked the people at Ambank but the company was struggling to survive as it too was having financial issues as a result of the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

Capbanc was a service bureau for domestic and international banking organizations. The network included 30+ banks in Louisiana and Texas. Capbanc had international accounts in Africa, Turkey, and several Persian Gulf States. The product was written for NCR Century services mainframes written in NEAT/3 and Cobol. I worked on the Proof of Deposit (MICR Sorter) programs, the front-end scrub programs, the master file update programs, and the online access files that also included ATM and paraphonics applications. I really enjoyed programming.
