About Michael Venegas

A systems and controls engineer with a vast variety of experience in both the aerospace and automotive fields. Most recently over my career, I have had the opportunity to grow and foster teams from inception through product launch, and lead technical solutions across a variety of applications that are in use today. With nearly 20 years of experience, I am continually looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge towards new and advancing technologies as applied to automated systems in both safe and novel ways.

    Starting in April 2017, I joined Rivian as one of the initial members of the ADAS team. I held a variety of positions as the project and team expanded, starting as Lead Engineer from April 2017 until November 2019, then Manager until February 2021, Senior Manager until January 2022, and finally as Director until my departure in September 2023. During my tenure at Rivian, I was focused both on the Systems Engineering and Planning & Controls development for the Driver+ suite of active safety and driver assist features. As an initial member of the ADAS team, I had the opportunity to help shape what became Driver+ alongside conceptualization through to product launch and post-launch refinement, as well as directly build up the ADAS Systems and Controls Engineering teams in the process. Eventually through the launch of R1 and EDV, I was managing a team of more than 50 engineers with 7 direct reports serving a variety of different focus areas including system integration & test (verification & regression), feature development, functional safety, planning and controls.
