I was the County Butterfly Recorder for Butterfly Conservation from 1996 to 2003 and became a licensed Volunteer Bat Roost Visitor for Natural England in 1998. Bats became, and remain, an absorbing passion and I became the chairman of Nottinghamshire Bat Group in 2008. After guiding the group through a Heritage Lottery funded project called ‘EchoLocation Location’ which ended in 2018 I stepped down as chairman but I continue to be an active member of the group. I’m an active member of the Nottinghamshire Dormouse Group and take part in the monitoring of three woodlands in the county where dormice have been reintroduced. I gained my dormouse licence in 2019.In 2012 after a 33 year career in retail I joined Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and now work within the Nature Recovery Team responsible for monitoring projects, management plans, countryside stewardship grants, and conservation grazing. At this time I also took on the role of County Mammal Recorder and hope one day to produce a Nottinghamshire Mammal Atlas.
