Michael E. Wallis is the Executive Director of Aviation, Merck Aviation Services, Merck & Co., Inc.Mike joined Merck in 2011, and as Executive Director he is responsible for all aviation operations within Merck’s flight department. He leads a diverse team of aviation professionals who represent all divisions within the department. In this position, Mike is responsible for the department‘s strategic vision and managing daily flight operations. His focus is on his people and fostering a collaborative approach to Merck’s industry leading corporate aviation programs. Mike is also an International Captain on the Gulfstream G650 aircraft, and is fully engaged in Merck’s world-wide flight operations.Prior to joining Merck, Mike held an extensive range of senior management positions in both corporate and military flight operations. From 2003-2008, he was the Chief Pilot for NextEra Energy in West Palm Beach, FL, where he was responsible for NextEra’s daily flight operations, department training, standards, and the preparation and oversight of the annual budget. In 2008, Mike left NextEra to join Comcast-Spectacor Aviation in Philadelphia. While at Comcast, Mike served as an International Gulfstream Captain in support of Spectator’s global business ventures and also as the training and compliance officer.Mike’s aviation career also includes 20 years of honorable service in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Mike held multiple squadron and wing level leadership positions including Director of Personnel, Director of Training, and Director of Maintenance. He twice deployed in support of operations over Iraq, and his military flying includes over 3000 hours of Aircraft Carrier operations, and over 300 Aircraft Carrier landings. Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy. He is a National Business Aviation Association Certified Aviation Manager (CAM), and a graduate of UVA’s Darden School of Management’s Aviation Managers Program.
