About Michael Watson
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Michael is a graduate of the Cleveland School of Arts. He has been working in the comic field since 2005 with his own publishing house, Freestyle Komics, as well as several other indie titles.Michael earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from The Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) and helped to start the first full comic publication at CCAD.Carrying the title of the “Most Enthusiastic Person in Comics’ has taken Michael to several places.His enthusiasm can always be found on display in the classroom where Michael has been a teacher for an after school art program at Fort Hayes, East, and Downtown High Schools in Columbus, Ohio. Also within the creative stage of comic book conventions such as Fan Expo (formerly known as Wizard World), Galaxy Con, C2E2, DreamCon, SPX, Cartoon Crossroads and many other conventions. Winning drawing competitions, brought in as a featured guest and scoring the cover of the Columbus Alive.Michael has gained experience through different publishing relationships, Legacy Rising Publications(Creative Lead) and Short Fuse media Group LLC(Publisher). taking that knowledge and experience and pouring it into his own publishing house, Freestyle Komics, 42 comics contained within 14 different series.Michael’s work, his flagship character Hotshot, was featured, and proudly displayed, in the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. When he isn’t publishing or hitting the comic convention trail, Michael moonlights as a freelance artist for Upper Deck’s Marvel Sketch Card division and has been published in Lion Forge’s “Black Comix Returns :Vol. Two”.Michael has added streaming to his portfolio starting with hosting a podcast show called Chat and Draw with well over 280 episodes. Michael Interviews other creators and draws an epic illustration during the conversation live. He also is on Geeks Council, and What The Fig toy podcast.Most recently Michael was hired as an illustrator for Mind Education. During his tenure there he took on different roles from Senior Art Lead to Art Director. Managing an amazing team of artist to complete and design a diverse roster of school age characters and a math activity books into a new way of learning for children grade K-6.
