• Balfour Beatty United Group Limited (BBUGL) via Hudsons: Short term contracting (November 2010 / February 2011) as an Environmental Advisor on the Western Down to Halys 275kV Project.• Northern Network Alliance via Land Partners: Short term contracting (August / September 2010) as an Environmental Advisor on the $450 million Stage 2 of the Northern Pipeline Interconnector.• Filter Sock Weirs for Sediment Fences: Designed, developed, manufactured and supplied these units to NNA to allow an inexpensive simple method of compliant water discharge from the pipeline easement. As a senior member of the Environmental Strategies Group I looked at current practices and procedures across the whole corporation; seeking integration and rationalisation to improve environmental, reputation and fiscal outcomes. This also involved researching emerging trends and legislation to proactively manage the change process Some of the projects and programs included:• Environmental Education • Environmental Research • Griffith University Site preparation effects on soil and growth parameters. Direct seeded, tubed stock, fertilizer and tending regimes in sodic soils throughout Queensland. Trials on scalping and direct seeding.• University of Queensland. Soil erosion rates under different clearing regimes in sodic soils. Effects of different soil ameliorating additives on growth rates and erosion potential of exposed sodic subsoils. Animal interactions on High Voltage Infrastructure. Effects of lineal infrastructure on arboreal mammals. Evaluation on the use of amelioration structures to facilitate movement across lineal infrastructure easements. This project was a $315M 47 km water pipeline. My role requirements involved inspection and auditing of pipeline construction operations including pipe laying operation, vegetation clearing, water crossings, sensitive areas, treatment plant construction, reinstatement, sediment and erosion control, trench and crossing de-watering, property complaints, and blue green algae treatment of impoundments.I was also required to liaise with the Traditional Owners and organise and manage Cultural Heritage Monitors and advise management of any requirements under the Cultural Heritage Management Plan for the project.as required.Another challenging component of this work was designing and organising the establishment of Environmental Legacy Projects for enhancing biodiversity values as offsets for the adverse impact of construction on the affected communities. These projects were designed in consultation with local community and conservation groups.I worked closely with the designated Sediment Control Crew providing training and directing some of their work. I was also involved in investigating environmental incidents and in organising oil spill clean-ups.
