Team Leader - Cubesat Launch Adapter

California State University-Los Angeles, Los Angeles California

CubeSat Launch Adapter was a year long senior design project as part of the ABET course work for California State University-Los Angeles, which allowed our team to work through the engineering process. As the team leader (total of five team members), I performed the duties of a systems manager, working closely with our Northrup Grumman liaison and faculty advisor, to ensure our project stayed on schedule and was completed on time. My duties included; creating a statement of work, work breakdown schedule, project schedule, compiling weakly team progress reports, scheduling team meetings, creating full concept designs using SolidWorks, teaching/assisting team members with sub-concept designs using SolidWorks, compiling presentations and final reports.Problem• There are currently no means to physically fix malfunctions to a space craft’s instruments • CubeSats are not designed to dock with host satellite after initial dispensing• Our Servicing CubeSat is battery powered, which will require recharging• Our servicing CubeSat will need to survive launch conditions• Our servicing CubeSat will need to dispense and dock to host satellite• Service tools will require a housing unit to survive launch conditions and allow tools to attach and releaseScopeThe objective of the CubeSat Launch Adapter is to allow a CubeSat to attach to a spacecraft for launch and to house servicing tools. Sub-objectives are to fabricate a housing unit for service tools, allow for continuous dispensing/docking with a larger host spacecraft, allow service tools to dispense and dock with housing unit, allow for battery recharging with a host spacecraft, and allow communication with servicing tools and host spacecraft.

Optical Design Of Uv Fluorescence/Raman Imaging Spectrometer

Pasadena, California

Worked in collaboration with the WATSON instrument, a prototype inspired by SHERLOC, an instrument to be used on the 2020 Mars Rover. Separated the optical layout of the WATSON instrument into virtually modules using SolidWorks CAD software to allow for redesign and modifications to be made. I recreated the module which housed four optics and the spectrometer, to allow the framework to be 3-D printed as a single unit. Using a Formlabs 3-D printer, I prototyped a full-scale model of the module to allow for testing in lab. WATSON - Wide Angle Topographic Sensor for Operations and eNgineering

Engineering Design And Assistance For Astrogeology Research

Pasadena, California

Worked in collaboration with the 2020 Mars rover instrument SHERLOC (UV-Roman laser), which involved extensive use of SolidWorks and additive manufacturing. This project featured, designing and prototyping a custom flow cell using additive manufacturing processes. Additionally I designed a housing cover for the UV-Roman laser system and setup used to model SHERLOC. Throughout this project, I also designed and fabricated (using commercial 3-D printers) a variety of custom parts for experiments including; mirror mounts, rock sample clamps, borehole guides, and prototyping.
