Michael Yip is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC San Diego, IEEE RAS Distinguished Lecturer, Hellman Fellow, Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors, and former Walt Disney Imagineer. At UCSD he founded the Advanced Robotics and Controls Laboratory (ARCLab) that focuses on solving problems in autonomous dexterous manipulation, surgical robotics, model-free control, planning, haptics, soft robotics and computer vision. Dr. Yip's work has been recognized through several best paper awards at ICRA and IROS, including the inaugural best paper award for IEEE's Robotics and Automation Letters.

I manage a multidisciplinary group of between 20-30 personnel comprising Postdoctoral Scholars, PhD, Masters, and undergraduate students, in the areas of computer science, electrical, mechanical, and biomedical engineering. Our research is supported by NSF, NIH, DoD, Industry, and private donors.The lab is part of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UCSD.
