Michael applies his communications and marketing skills in support of international organizations that focus on sustainable development, with an emphasis on education, economic growth and transitioning communities from conflict to peace.Drawing on his more than two decades of experience as a journalist and editor, Michael directs a talented team that develops and implements strategies designed to build relationships and brand awareness with key audiences. These strategies incorporate a rich blend of high-quality stories, videos, blogs, research papers, events, media outreach and much more. He is an accomplished project manager with a track record of delivering successful communications and marketing outcomes online and in print.Michael has traveled for work to more than 30 countries from Central America to Central Asia, with a particular emphasis on Mexico, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Ghana. Michael and his small, dedicated team at Creative Associates International have won more than three dozen awards for content and campaigns. For example, in May 2022, he led the team that won four Telly Awards (two silver and two bronze) for the 40-minute documentary on Nigeria’s Middle Belt called “Seeking Peace Amid Complex Conflicts.” This is in addition to eight other awards for the documentary. He was the documentary's producer, director and scriptwriter. In May 2021, the team won awards for three sets of videos on its programs. In 2020, he supervised the team that produced “Saliendo Adelante,” an award-winning multimedia package about Creative’s study into the drivers of migration from Central America’s Northern Triangle. In 2024, his short film on efforts to stem gender-based violence in Santa Ana, El Salvador, won a bronze Telly Award. He shot the film in one day on an iPhone.At his prior job with Counterpart International, his Communications Department was selected as one of the “Top 20 Best Places to Work” by the prestigious PR News in November 2012.He is the author of three published books. Michael lived and worked in Mexico as a journalist and editorial development director for 14 years.
