Bader 5 inpatient Psychiatric unit at Boston Children's Hospital! Here, I am lucky enough to work under a CTRS who supervises my work as an intern. Bader 5 is a locked unit for children ages 8-17 whom have physical, along with severely emotional deficits. We see an array of disorders with our patients but some of the most common are; Depressive Disorders, Suicide attempts or ideation, Schizoaffective Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, and an array of eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia. I am responsible for assessing, documenting and implementing recreation based activities for our patients, that aim to promote a holistic and safe approach to therapy. We use coping skills as our main tool to help these children get the skills they need in order to function in the community again after they leave Bader 5.

Through my coursework at the University of New Hampshire, I have the pleasure to gain tremendous amounts of hands-on experience and build upon my skills as a recreational therapist with Carriage Hill in Madbury, NH. Carriage Hill is an assisted care facility that is dedicated to assisting and improving the lives of older individuals. As a recreational therapy intern, I will be in charge of conducting, planning and implementing evidenced based interventions that use recreation as the main tool in assisting clients to reach their goals. I will meet with my client once a week in order to improve upon his/her abilities/disabilities.

Community Partners is a place dedicated to assisting and improving the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
