KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Assess the current capability of Tesco Shared Service (one Tesco run centre of 7,000 colleagues in Bangalore, India, delivering simple to complex activities across all functions and countries).• Maximise value to the Tesco Group through Shared Service. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS• Completed a detailed capability assessment of Tesco Shared Service through benchmarking and understanding external perspectives and best practice, highlighting c.£200m pa of cost saving opportunity which would also drive a more effective service in terms of speed and quality of output.• Effectively engaged a significant number of broad ranging sceptical and resistant stakeholders around the need for transformation.• Role model and ‘go to’ person/team for working collaboratively across a complex matrix environment. • Worked with the Executive Board and Senior Leadership team to develop a vision, set of principles, strategy and initial implementation plan for Tesco Shared Service – a first in ten years of Tesco being in Shared Service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Member of the Finance, HR and IT Leadership Teams , coaching and supporting both individual and team development• Develop a resourcing strategy to ensure a strong, diverse external talent pipeline at all levels• Lead talent development to ensure strong, diverse internal pipelines in every market• Develop and deliver both leadership and technical training to maximise capability• Ensure the People policies and processes were transparent and delivered effectively for all colleagues• Grow a strong HR team to support delivery of the People vision, strategy and plan.EXAMPLES OF ACHIEVEMENTS • Designed and implemented a global talent management strategy, which established career maps for all directors, and rolling talent planning for all colleagues, working collaboratively with the regional and business unit HR teams. The Finance talent planning process was held up as the blueprint against which to benchmark the rest of the Tesco Group. This all resulted in increased retention from 53% to 74% for managers and directors.• Recruitment was proactively targeted to increase breadth of skills, experience and diversity, increasing female directors from 8% to 23% and directors of non- white British origin from 9% to 27%. Overall high potential talent increased from 16% to 39%.• In Finance we expanded the Graduate Programme beyond the UK to 9 countries, with a 98% CIMA pass rate, 86% retention and 72% promotion to Manager. As a result, the Finance Graduate Programme was shortlisted for the ‘Learning and Development’ IGD Food Industry Award 2011.• Technical capability to support the Finance vision was increased through the development and global launch of a technical skills framework for Finance across the Group – the first in Tesco. This was then supported by the development and global launch of a Finance Academy Online training tool, for which we achieved a shortlisting for the ‘Excellence in HR through technology’ Personnel Today Award 2013.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• An integral part of the Distribution, Supply Chain and UK Finance leadership teams.• Responsible for developing and driving the financial strategy to support the overall operational strategy.• Overall responsibility for cost control and reduction, with continued or improved service levels.• Lead all planning processes – 5 year long term plans, annual budgets, and rolling forecasts – at both a corporate and 30 depot / 1,000 store level.• Accountable for both external and internal reporting requirements across both financial and non-financial KPIs.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS• Delivered costs to budget every year. Prior to this, Distribution had not delivered to budget for 7 years.• Created new financial models to support the c.£300m pa capital investment programme and ensure that the Distribution restructure resulted in a significantly more efficient and effective network, decreasing costs by 25% in real terms.• Implemented food stockholding targets and reporting, working with the Commercial Buying and Supply Chain teams to ensure all targets were delivered, reducing stockholding by £200m. • Successfully transitioned 30% of Stores Distribution Finance and 100% of Primary Distribution Finance (the only full team transition in Finance) to Shared Service in Bangalore with no disruption or reduction in quality of output, reducing colleague costs by 40%.• Built a strong Finance team through external recruitment and internal development to support the strategy. 60% of the Senior Analysts were promoted to Manager, both in the UK and India, during my tenure.
