About Michaela Hunter

My professional development and experience in NZ's financial services industry has provided me with a sound understanding of the insurance industry, financial advice environment, risk management principals, and regulatory frameworks for financial service providers in New Zealand. Beginning my career in the financial services industry in 1998, I learned about the industry from the ground up, by working with a top adviser business in Auckland where I was instrumental in developing and implementing a compliance framework that ultimately helped the practice achieve a premier business award, and being held out as an example to other financial advisory businesses in its network.Since then I've worked with some of New Zealand's largest financial service providers specialising in insurances and investments. Roles have included working closely with advisers and their businesses to provide compliance guidance and support in the run up to the introduction of the Financial Advisers Act 2008 ('FAA'), implementation and maintenance of frameworks ensuring QFE compliance, and oversight and management of the corporate risk and compliance environment. More recently I've been back providing compliance guidance and consultancy to and developing tools and procedures for advisers, their businesses, head groups and corporates in the preparation for transition from the FAA to the transition to the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 regime. I have a commitment to success and a passion for business process improvement that actually adds value to business. In particular I am an enthusiast for ensuring solutions are not only pragmatic and suited to the businesses I work with, but also balance compliance obligations with risks, and ultimately ensure the best outcomes for advisers and their businesses, and their clients.
