Michaela received her B.S. degrees in both Natural Resources and Environmental Science and Equine Science and Management in 2017 from the University of Kentucky. During her undergraduate career she worked in Dr. Steven Price’s Herpetology and Freshwater Ecology Lab, assisting with most of the lab projects, including projects investigating variation in the prevalence of Snake Fungal Disease in natricine snakes among land use types, mark-recapture of natricine snakes using PIT telemetry, mark-recapture of salamanders using VI elastomer, investigating mining effects on salamander abundance, investigating land use effects on Streamside Salamander occupancy of Kentucky streams, and assessing artificial wetland suitability as amphibian habitat. Her undergraduate research in the lab investigted the calling behavior of the threatened Northern Crawfish Frog. Michaela also completed a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates at the University of Georgia's Savannah River Ecology Lab where she investigated the sublethal metabolic effects of Radiocesium and Mercury contamination in Florida Green Watersnakes. In 2017 Michaela began pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Kentucky working under Drs. Chris Barton and Steven Price investigating the efficacy of artificial wetlands as pond breeding amphibian habitat on a reforested surface mine in the Monongahela National Forest. Michaela is currently the Basin Coordinator for the Big Sandy River and is a member of the Nonpoint Source and Basin Team with the Kentucky Division of Water's Watershed Management Branch. Michaela’s career interests include aquatic ecology, restoration ecology, disease ecology, and conservation biology.
