I managed a caseload of eight young people who were at risk of homelessness with complex needs such as mental and physical health problems, family breakdowns, and a history of offending. I supported them in areas such as: developing life skills for independence; finding education, training and employment opportunities; managing health conditions and substance misuse issues; and maintaining healthy relationships.

Camden, London

From December 2011 to January 2013 I worked as a Community Support Worker at King’s Terrace Project, part of Camden ISH, a high support mental health One Housing Group Project. In this role I have had responsibility for organising and facilitating activities and outings to support customers with social inclusion. These activities have included art, music, walking, cooking, games and yoga groups as well as coffee mornings and massage therapy sessions. I have also co-key-worked alongside the support officers at King’s Terrace project to support customers with attending appointments and developing life skills.

Through this job I had responsibility for designing and delivering programmes to a variety of groups on themes around peace and reconciliation. This residential centre would deliver programmes for adult groups, family groups, youth groups and school groups from within Northern Ireland. We also deliver programmes for students from other countries such as Germany, Sweden, America and Japan who are interested in learning about Northern Ireland, the troubles, peace and reconciliation. I have organised and ran recreational activities for children and adults, such as outdoor team building games and arts activities. Through my work at Corrymeela I have experience of childcare, of working with children and young people of a variety of ages. I also helped with other aspects of the running of this residential centre such as housekeeping, catering, reception and administration.

I had an internship at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology between September 2009 and July 2010, studying part time on a theology course, leading prayer services within the college and assisting with hospitality and administrative tasks within the college. I also volunteered with CAFOD, the Catholic international development charity, as part of this internship within their spirituality department, writing resources for them as well as assisting with administrative tasks.
