Lab research in synthetic biology and microbiome engineering. Focus on developing helpful bacterial communities for marine infrastructure (probiotics for ships). Using lab techniques to maximize optimal traits in bacterial communities in order to reduce drag, decrease costs, decrease pollution, and increase efficiency.

Investigation of the phylogeny of young transposable elements under the guidance of Dr. Miriam Konkel. Manual curation of consensus sequences using sequence alignment tools and a combination of gene databases and phylogenetic analysis programs. Designed a research proposal and schedule of objectives maintained through two semesters of classes and a paid summer program funded by the NIH. Discussed findings and goals in weekly collaborate team meetings. Presented a research poster at the Clemson Summer CI & UR poster symposium. Continued scientific writing and literature review of current research. Executed a grassroots marketing strategy that targeted local business connections, regular catering relationships, and focus on integration into the community. Worked in a concentrated space of department managers who promoted creative forums.
