Profile bio

About Michaela Morse

Communicating complex ideas requires strategic thinking and strong visual solutions. I'm a visual thinker who loves to ask the right questions so your needs get addressed from the start, because I will listen deeply and do my research. Counting a wayward semester in Buenos Aires and attending one institution that merged with another, you might say it took me four schools to earn my undergraduate degrees. While I'm still pinching myself that I never have to transfer another credit again, I wouldn't change one step of my trajectory. I developed graphic arts and design thinking skills through studying apparel and digital design tools at the U of MN's College of Design, which later positioned me to begin a career in visual communications while I was still a student at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts. Working for the university's Office of Sustainability and getting to combine my love for visual design with my passion for expanding spaces of intersectional environmentalism, I produced informational signage, brochures, and other print media. I also became Communications Team Lead, managing four interns and the office's outgoing communications and internal workflows to fill the gap left by the absence of a comms specialist. While coordinating the planning and posting of content across our social media accounts, monthly newsletter, websites and blog, I re-wrote the office brand guidelines to keep our creative content consistent across all channels. However, visuals alone can't say it all. After switching to a studio arts degree, I sought to feed the part of me that asks how things are connected and I found myself designing an Interdisciplinary Studies degree to rigorously consider the intersections of food systems, social exchanges and the environment; regular themes in my artwork. Through the research and development of a 109-page thesis and virtual exhibition, I found that photographic documentation and the ways we encounter contemporary art and design through digital media hugely impact our experiences as humans in the Anthropocene. In a circuitous way, this brings me back to visual communications and design strategies, which I continue to employ as a communications consultant. If I get wordy at times, it's because I care about the details! Give me a lengthy creative brief or at three word prompt and I will use both the analytical and artistic sides of my brain to deliver designs and concise content that will enhance, rather than compete with, your message.

Listed skills include Sewing, Apparel, Fashion Illustration, Fashion Design, and 1 others.
