About Michaela Walsh
As a Copywriter at 4040 Media, the role was varied and allowed me to use my creative flare in writing to produce scripts, blogs and other content for marketing platforms. My time as a Schools' Liaison & Marketing Assistant at Cardinal Newman College has provided me with the opportunity to develop a number of different PR and marketing skills, including writing Press Releases, supporting the production of marketing material for use at college and school events. Further to this I have had the chance to gain experience in Events Organising from arranging outside business to support the event right up to the running of the event and evaluation afterwards. In my role as a Editorial Intern I had the opportunity to develop my knowledge of the industry from another angle. The role gave me the opportunity to work closely with PR companies and to build on what I had learnt whilst working with the marketing PR company Paver Smith. Further to this the position gave me the opportunity to indulge in my love of writing.Key strengths I possess are exceptional organisational skills; performing well under pressure; excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong enthusiasm to work in a creative communication environment.

Copywriter
As a copywriter my main responsibility was to write scripts, website copy, blogs, ebooks and infographic copy (both in house & client based). The topics for these pieces ranged from branding and social media, to SEO and inbound marketing, for both SME and larger business enterprises from various industries. My other responsibility was to manage customer and supplier relationships to ensure all projects ran smoothly, and to our fixed turnaround times. All of this was recorded within the CMS.I also had to proofread my own work, and the work of others, to ensure accurate and high-quality work was produced. Within the role I worked with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, account executives, web developers and marketing specialists. Plus, I carried out various other administrative tasks to help the smooth running of the office and projects.
Schools' Liaison & Marketing Assistant
My main duties in this role have been to support the production of College marketing materials, including sourcing information, copywriting and proof reading; updating the College website with new content through Word Press, including the delivery of social media on a number of platforms. I have also used Dotmailer to create a mail shot to subscribers of our mailing list which showcased news and updates based around the college and its events. As part of the Schools’ Liaison team I deliver advice and guidance to prospective students at school and College events as well as ensuring schools and external partners have the necessary information and resources about College. Further to this I have built relationships in College with academic staff for events and marketing support and carried out any other task as required to assist the Schools’ Liaison and Marketing team, including working with the local press, writing Press Releases and news stories for the College website. I regularly represent the College at school events including open evenings and parents’ evenings and have had the opportunity to support the development and running of some of the big college events.
Editorial Intern
Two days a week gaining experience in all areas of how a magazine is edited and produced. Including writing interviews and reviews for venues and products; copywriting for the products that are placed in regular features and updating Twitter & Facebook on a weekly basis. In addition, I have spent a lot of time communicating and working with marketing and PR agencies to ensure the content that is placed in the magazine is suitable for the intend audience.
Writer
Freelance writing for their online forum.
Staffing/Programmes Coordinator
My role at The Challenge was initially to help support the attraction, selection and communication with a high number of potential staff and volunteers for the summer 2013 programme as well as continuing relationships with Challenge staff alumni. Through this role I have further developed my communication skills which helped me to build strong internal and external relationships. On occasions when staff would drop out last minute from their role I had to work quickly and efficiently to find a suitable replacement which has developed my problem solving skills and has also helped me to improve my ability to persuade. Recently my role has changed and I now support the programmes team. In this role I am responsible for a number of different tasks including but not limited to: organising materials and paperwork to ensure the activities are able to run smoothly; preparation of materials to be used in presentations to the young people on the programme as well as the staff who will be working with them and other general administrative tasks.
Work Experience At Paver Smith
During my time at Paver Smith I have had the opportunity to develop my knowledge and understanding of the uses of social media. I have worked with the senior partner to help create an author platform for a series of eBooks online which integrates four key strands that are linked to an Amazon page. While working on this I did research on a media relations plan targeting print and broadcast media, as well as influential bloggers. Additionally, I managed the Twitter output which is linked to Facebook, therefore, getting maximum output with minimum input. I have also carried out a number of administrative tasks including proof reading of press releases and letters that would be distributed to the public on behalf of clients.
Teacher
In my role at St Ambrose Barlow my role was split between teaching English Language, English Literature and Media Studies. Planning and organisation were a key element of my role; in particular, I was responsible for preparing courses and lessons in a way that is most effective to given class. Creativity in producing high quality teaching materials was important in keeping a class interested. Furthermore, I was responsible for assessing, recording and reporting on the progress and attainment of pupils. People and behaviour management skills are essential in this role in order to provide an efficient and productive working environment. In my role as a Media Studies teacher I needed to have a good subject knowledge and understanding of how the industry works in order to help guide the pupils through their GCSE course. Within this I have touched on target audience, media convergence and how the industry has developed.
Teacher
During this role, I acted as second in department under the Head of English as I was the only teacher of three whose primary subject was English. Although I took on more responsibilities than would be expected of an NQT teacher, I embraced the steep learning curve and was praised of my performance. These responsibilities included writing schemes of work for the department to use, guiding a GCSE class through a new exam syllabus that hadn't previously been done at this school and sharing training on new exam syllabus with others in the department. During this role I was also able to further develop my people skills through a number of challenging situations that required patience and the ability to adapt very quickly. As part of the GCSE course I had to teach pupils about how advertising works so that they could analyse what makes a good advertisement.
Supply Teacher
After qualifying from my degree I took a year working in supply teaching to gain a wider range of experience in variety of different types of schools and environments. In doing so, I was able to adapt my communication skills to suit what was required in terms of meeting new staff and addressing varied levels of behaviour within the classroom. Flexibility and good people skills were essential in making this role a success.
