Communications interface between the public and Fire and Emergency New ZealandCall-taker- Receiving 111 emergency calls from persons in need of immediate emergency assistance.- Retrieving information from people who could be emotionally upset, abusive or intoxicated, and providing reassurance.- General Admin calls from the public, alarm companies and agents, media and FENZ personnel. - Advising members of the public appropriate actions to take in various emergency, and non-emergency situations- Notifying, initiating and coordinating the appropriate response of other emergency services such as Police and Ambulance to the incident as required.- Notifying external agencies of incidents where their assistance is required (Power, Gas, Civil Aviation).- Maintaining, updating and adding important data of Common Place Names within the I/CAD system used by Fire and Emergency NZ and the New Zealand Police.- Maintaining, updating and adding important Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) used and followed by Fire and Emergency NZ Communication Centres.Dispatcher- Critical thinking and decision-making determining the appropriate response for events- Maintaining Radio communications with crews responding to incidents as they progress- Supporting the incident ground operations by providing information about incidents- Allocating Fire and Emergency NZ resources to incidents- Monitoring the status of FENZ resources and crews responding to incidents- Ensuring incident response decisions meet the requirements of the Service Level Agreements- Monitoring and ensuring there are sufficient resources available for response to further incidents- Collecting operational information from the incident to provide a basis for performance reporting- Mentoring of new staff in both Calltaker and Dispatcher roles- Overlooking less experienced staff in a leadership role when there is no Shift Manager available

Coordinating data change processes for the Te Hiku Region including:- Fire District boundaries- Zone boundaries- Appliance response lists- Pre-determined attendanceMaintaining the regions response data, ensuring adherence to national data standards and consistency of resourcing/response in line with national policy Developing task force plans for the region ensuring alignment with national templates and proceduresAssisting with the development, maintenance and reviewing of regional emergency response plansincluding a register of:- Civil defence plans- Rural fire plans- Fire protection agreements- Tactical plansIdentifying threats to the Region’s continuity and preparing appropriate contingency plansDeveloping relationships and working with stakeholders such as councils and local authorities to inform business planning and gathering of performance dataLiaising with Communications Centres and District Managers to review and test response dataLiaising with Communications Centre Manager to ensure delivery of quality service to DistrictsAdvising on requirements for post incident audits and monitor corrective actionsWorking with the Region Management team to develop operational procedures that align andsupport national proceduresProviding support and advice for risk planning and business planningImplementing local procedures and improvement initiativesContributing to regional and area business planning, providing informed community intelligence regarding risk and performanceEnsuring all area/districts business plans actions are focused on achievement of standards andoperational improvementMaintaining a register of Memorandum of Understanding for the Region including Ambulance, Sections 15s etc and ensuring their currencyCoordinating the testing, readiness and effective operation of the Regional Coordination Centre
