I work hand-in-hand with our creative team (design team, photographers, copywriter) to develop conceptually driven, finely crafted, effective solutions for our clients. From design aesthetics and style of photography on to verbiage and tone of language of copy, I oversee the creative process to ensure that the various elements of a project effectively work together within the concept to accomplish the given project's goals. I have enjoyed helping numerous creatives go from good to great by helping them better understand the intriguing and inherent power of conceptual thinking.I also oversee development and implementation of our projects, promoting an atmosphere of pride in craft and execution.

Focussing on the essentials of design, together with my students, we explore the formal elements and fundamental principles of design that can be seen in nature and found in all good design. Once the foundation has been set, we move on to typography, visualization methods and compostion. While learning about these elements of design, I help students develop critical thinking skills through group critiques and discussing such things as denotative and connotative meaning. A student can not simply say, "I like it". They must also be able to explain why.We also spend considerable time exploring conceptual thinking and developing methods to hone this important skill. For example, their first exercise in conceptual thinking involves drawing an apple that is not a fruit or a cup that is not used for drinking. Usually students are initially dumbfounded by the question but then you can watch as the light bulbs begin to turn on in their heads. Many students have returned to tell me how "exciting" or "cool" it was the moment it clicked.As a level 100 and 200 professor, I am less concerned with craft and execution of ideas and more interested in challenging students to take the courage to fully explore those ideas.
