My role is primarily a combination of Program Management, Project Management, and Business Analysis. During my time I have delivered exciting projects and the company has tripled in size. I am very proud that my contributions have been instrumental in achieving this outcome.Working from the Melbourne office I have delivered enterprise systems from end to end for the EPA (Environment Protection Authority) of South Australia, Centennial Park Cemetery Trust in Adelaide, and Dairy Food Safety Victoria amongst others. I also managed the development of the Streatrader project for the Department of Health (now the Department of Health and Human Services) in Victoria.I have also delivered CRS (Central Registration System) to manage applications and placement of children into Kindergartens and Long Day Care Centres. This has been an ongoing product development spanning several years, the product comprises a comprehensive back office and a linked public facing portal for parents to manage their children's applications and make payments. The system is in use by several Councils in Victoria.

At Dialog I managed a team of 23 that included project managers, business analysts, developers, and technical writers. I worked closely with the Melbourne Account Manager for the Professional Services Division, lifted the skills of the development staff and implemented better process. The outcome was that revenue doubled in a year and a solid platform was established for further growth, I am very proud of this achievement.When I started at Dialog, the Professional Services Division was tackling projects of $30k - $50k, within a year the team was taking on projects in excess of $500k and was on track to take on projects of $1m+My major clients at Dialog included the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, the Victorian Department of Health, Springvale Cemetery,.and the Port of Melbourne Authority.

I was hired by Integrian Pty Ltd specifically to manage the VICERS project, which produced a black box recorder for trains (still in use on the Melbourne Metro train network). I managed the Product Development aspects of the project.The project was a major challenge as it was already behind schedule when I started on the project. I managed a team of 26 (at its peak). The project covered all aspects of the recorder, including hardware (18 multi layer circuit boards); firmware (for 6 of the boards); software (to download and review the logged information); and mechanical structure (the box needed to withstand vibration on the trains and survive significant impacts).I was able to work with the team to overcome numerous significant obstacles to complete the project only 1 month behind schedule. I had actually caught up the project and it would have been delivered on time had the unit not failed the electromagnetic testing, which therefore required required rectification and a second round of testing to be scheduled.This was an exciting project to be associated with because of its significance, the scale and scope of the project, and the achievement of the team in overcoming all hurdles that were placed in its way.

I worked closely with Phillip Morris over a number of years to deliver a number of key desktop and web based applications.One of the enterprise systems I managed for Phillip Morris was the RIVER system to manage vending machine stocking and sales. This included the use of handheld PDA's that were synchronised with the servers at Phillip Morris and plugged into the vending machines to program the columns, stock figures, pricing etc of the vending machines. The machines were developed in Spain and I collaborated with the Spanish manufacturers.I also worked on the SFE (Sales Force Empowerment) system that allocated work schedules, orders, and other aspects of work for the sales agents. SFE was a leading edge CRM (Customer Relationship Managment) system that empowered sales staff. The system incorporated the use of Microsoft tablets to allow staff full flexibility and offline computing capability.Another significant project for Phillip Morris was the e-Orders system, a web based dialup system for managing stock ordering for a number of third party retail outlets (including 7-11, Foodies, other convenience stores and service stations, and other outlets). The system collated orders and submitted consolidated order information to the suppliers of the products, providing a central ordering and purchasing system for head offices and cross docks.

I was hired by National Mutual (now Axa) to develop a state of the art system to automatically assess insurance applications as they were being keyed into the laptops of insurance representatives.This type of system had never been done before anywhere in the world. The system used a third party underwriting engine from the UK that was designed for batch processing but I was able to make it work interactively, to the amazement of the team from the UK.The project was a bug success and was showcased in the IT section of The Age newspaper.

I worked as a contract developer / team lead working for the Rapid Response team at Telstra. The motto of the team was "if it can't be done, we'll do it". Our mission was to provide quick solutions to tricky problems that needed to be solved quickly as deadlines were looming. I developed a .dll in C (which was a big deal in those days) that could be fed a 7- or 8- digit phone number and it would return the new 8- digit or old 7- digit number as Telstra moved from 7 to 8 digit numbering.I was involved in many other projects (a mantra at Rapid Response was "don't ask how many people on a project, ask how many projects you will be working on at once" (my record was working hands-on as the sole developer on 4 projects at once, which was really difficult).Other significant projects I worked on at Rapid Response included: Avcord, a system that interrogated the mainframe for daily orders and was able to auto correct errors in order placement; Racer, a system to cater for provisioning of mobile phones, the takeup of which was exceeding all expectations at the time; and Faucet, a system for the management of court orders and warrants for electronic surveillance.

I worked on a number of projects in Business Banking at the ANZ, the main one was BPM2 (Business Performance Management). BPM is a system that takes in a wide range of data from many systems and allowed the users to put together formulas to determine the efficiency and profitability of different areas of the bank including branches and other entities. The system provides visual feedback and graphing.One of the other systems I worked on was INC (Interest Not Charged) that worked with another system I also developed called BADD (Bad and Doubtful Debts). These systems tracked loans that had gone bad and calculated the ongoing exposure of the bank to these debts. These figures were ultimately rolled up and consolidated and subsequently sent to the Reserve Bank to assist in assessing the financial health of the nation.
