Upon returning to work at Landscape Services following my graduation, I continued my prior work in inspecting campus trees for nutritional and health issues and potential hazards to students. However, I also expanded my work by authoring the report “Asian Longhorned Beetle Risk Assessment for the Indiana University Bloomington Campus” (for more details, please see the Projects section of my profile). Other work included building a complete inventory of waste and recycling bins on campus to increase waste collection efficiency and facilitate the planning of new locations, as well as providing supporting input and recommendations for the IU Sustainable Landscape Plan.

During my time at Indiana University I worked as a teaching assistant for two courses: Case Studies for Policy Analysis (with Dr. Joyce Man), and Public Finance and Budgeting (with Dr. Craig Johnson). I took great personal satisfaction and pride in helping undergraduate students and even my fellow graduate students to succeed in their academic and professional ambitions. I offered one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, as well as exam review sessions prior to every class exam. I also did lecture preparation work for Dr. Johnson using data from the Congressional Budget Office and U.S. Treasury.

During my internship with Landscape Services I updated and expanded the IU Bloomington campus tree inventory system with the ArcGIS Collector app. I also inspected campus trees to identfy tree safety issues such as broken/dangling limbs (posing potential hazards to students) and health issues such as girdling roots, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies to refer to the university arborists. Finally, I created a cartographical and statistical report of the condition of campus trees using Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS, and the IU Bloomington campus tree inventory system to provide useful information to decision makers.

Iowa City, Iowa Area

I worked over summer and occasionally winter breaks as a wheelchair collector for the UIHC. My duties included removing abandoned wheelchairs from waiting areas and corridors and transporting them to the appropriate storage locations in parking ramps and clinics, as well as providing directions and parking information to patients and guests.
