Reverted to Global Head of Water, Environment, Agriculture Sustainability

Temporary responsibility for implementation of Diageo's global sustainability strategy pending external appointment. Focussing on priority areas such as skills, gender, human rights, supply chain and environment as well as impact measurement, reporting and team and financial management.

Role extended to also include responsibility specifically for water and agriculture (in addition to environment) focussing on group strategy, policies and communications and support for broader sustainability strategy and programmes. Additional responsibilities include:• Interim Sustainable Development Director for six months pending new external appointment• Developing company sustainability targets for 2020 across all impact areas, together with KPIs and performance management system and rollout across markets• Embedding new global water strategy across all markets, focussing on water stressed sites, driving competitive advantage and promoting cross-industry collaboration • Water of Life community investment programme – focussed on Africa but to be extended to India and Brazil – providing clean water and sanitation to over 1m/year• Global agricultural programmes aimed at increasing local sourcing and supporting supply chain resilience – connecting into external international initiatives.

In a newly created role, principle responsibility was to drive the company’s environmental strategy and associated policies, communications and reputational programme. Key to this was understanding the material business risks and opportunities, evolving environmental policy development, industry trends and reporting best practice - and embedding this across the global business. Responsibilities included:• Drive strategy and support implementation programmes to ensure improved environmental sustainability performance• Increase external and internal awareness and engagement around Diageo’s environment strategy via stakeholder engagement and influencing programmes• Develop environmental policies and standards which are fit for purpose, consistent across all markets, more visible and industry leading• Embed improved Senior Executive understanding of risks and opportunities of environmental sustainability across whole supply chain• As subject matter expert support regional and local teams with environment strategy ensuring it is integral to business plans and appropriate capex plans are in place• Support development and implementation of specific high profile environmental projects which demonstrate company leadership and designed for wider rollout• Develop environmental sustainability partnerships with key stakeholders to support business growth plans – particularly in emerging markets.
