Michael is an user interface & interaction designer at Balsamiq. He is co-author of the book, "Wireframing for Everyone." He served as a co-founder and advisor to the Information Architecture Institute. He has worked on the design of web apps in digital libraries including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Bell Labs (Lucent Technologies). He has also worked as a front-end developer, information architect/interaction designer in an agency at Sapient, on a startup video app at Sling Media, and on enterprise knowledge management software at Traction Software. He has given talks at events including SXSW, IXDA NYC, DrupalCon, Asbury Agile, the American Society for Information Science & Technology, Usability Professionals Association and Computers In Libraries; and has been published in Boxes and Arrows, Library Journal, and the Visual Resources Journal. He studied Art History with a minor in Cinema Studies as an undergraduate, and has an MLS in Library and Information Science from Rutgers University where he was awarded the Chair’s “Great Work Award” and the Visual Resource Association’s “VRA Nancy DeLaurier Writing Award,” both in 1998.He has worked on several blogs from 1998-present including IAslash and Konigi, for which he was nominated in 2010 for the Stanford Innovation Journalism Conference award.
