I’m a communications professional with experience in migration and development, public relations, data privacy, and ISO. Whether it's in a private company or a non-profit, my goal is to inform my work with social justice and human rights. I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in social work.SOCIAL WELFAREI worked in the welfare arm of a crewing agency that employed Filipino seafarers. The department was called the "Corporate Communications and Family Center." I implemented projects and policies that helped seafarers and their families access benefits from the company and the government. I also carried out workshops that prepared seafarers and their families for migration, as well as programs that focused on maximizing their gains from going abroad: financial literacy, family management, couples’ seminars, livelihood, and entrepreneurship. My goal was to address the social cost of migration and provide a safe space for families and seafarers to seek assistance. Currently, I'm a volunteer program coordinator for a non-profit that works with migrants. I’ve been giving my time to a reintegration program that connects returned migrants with entrepreneurship opportunities and training.COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA MANAGEMENTI was a public relations manager for corporate foundations, entertainment outfits, telecommunication companies, and food and luxury brands. The PR agency I worked with had a small but effective team. The lean setup allowed me to experience all aspects of the job. I made PR plans, pitched them, managed execution, and monitored results. I also wrote press materials, mounted events, fostered press relations, and managed social media. When I moved to in-house corporate communications with a crewing agency, I used my PR training to create a communication strategy for the company.DATA PRIVACY & ISO I've authored a privacy manual and served as a data protection officer (DPO). I also trained staff on privacy compliance. In connection with my DPO role, I was also given the responsibility to oversee the crewing agency's Quality Department as its officer-in-charge. I shepherded successful ISO 9001:2015 external audits and a re-certification from DNV-GL. I also improved the company’s approach to internal audits and management review meetings.PUBLIC SPEAKINGIn 2019 I landed a part-time job as a radio newscaster and DJ. My love for music was paired with the public service of broadcast journalism. I was in charge of researching and writing my own daily news reports, on top of managing the playlist for the morning.
