Responsible for overseeing all Federation Secretariat disaster management tasks within the zone in line with established International Federation policies and practices. This includes taking the lead in ensuring an integrated approach to all aspects of the Federation's disaster management work with national societies, from core capacity and resilience building at the community level through disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, response preparedness and recovery programming. With regard to disaster and crises response, responsible for providing international coordination and technical support to National Societies during times of disasters including facilitating requests for international assistance and supporting the management of IFRC assistance in support of an affected National Society in Asia Pacific. In providing technical advice and support the position worked closely with the regional and country level offices to support the development of National Society capacity.

Thailand

The position ensured the overall guidance and support to the eleven National Societies within the Southeast Asia region in their long-term capacity building processes through the development of national and regional: DM policy, strategic and contingency plans, information systems, disaster response preparedness, community based preparedness, mitigation and prevention supporting overall risk reduction. Further support is provided to National Societies in their relationship with governmental frameworks, based on clear roles and responsibilities aligned with their status as auxiliaries to national governments.

Responsible for the coordination and management of Federation supported disaster management activities. A major focus of the position was on the management of the Community Vulnerability Reduction programme, which was implemented in three provinces. The programme focused on providing assistance to victims of flood related disasters through the construction of safe water and sanitation facilities and the provision of community based health and disaster preparedness activities.

Sudan

Responsible for the management and implementation of ICRC's water and habitat related field activities within the opposition held areas of southern Sudan. Duties included, conducting field appraisals and designing interventions with regard to water and sanitation requirements for internally displaced populations. A major focus of the position was the designed and implementation of a community based capacity building program for improving the sustainable operation of water sources through representative community structures. Including the development of safe water sources, visual based education materials, participatory based education and a suitable maintenance system through establishing two-way accountability between the wider community and the technical team.

Responsibilities included the coordination of the production of tender documentation, the writing of technical proposals and identification potential business opportunities in the areas of Environment, Governance, Education, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Health. Responsible for the provision of technical support, policy clarification and project management assistance to external consultants, NGO’s, provincial government and communities on the implementation of community based rural water supply and sanitation infrastructure incorporating capacity building and hygiene promotion. Responsibilities included field investigation and analysis of proposed rural water supply and sanitation projects; identification of training needs and capacity building for community managed and implemented water supply projects; preparation of project evaluation and monitoring reports, project proposals for funding; and development of a provincial sanitation strategy with respect to community identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and financial management.
