Profile bio

About Michael Owens

I study constituent engagement in schools and other organizations and advise graduate students conducting original research. My scholarly interests relate to the distribution of leadership and culture and organizational socialization issues within both public schools and other educational agencies. In particular, I am interested in how teachers and students participate in and reciprocally influence public school culture and socialization practices especially within urban settings and among children living at the margins of society. Research that looks into how educational organizations and students mutually influence school culture and socialization may shed light on how mismatches between the stated and underlying values embedded within current P-12 educational policies and structures affect the provision of equitable educational opportunities for all students.Specialties: Education
